What does it actually mean to live as a living sacrifice? Romans 12 opens with one of the most challenging and beautiful appeals in all of Scripture, and it starts not with a command but with a motivation: the mercy of God. We all know the language of grace and mercy, but this message pushes us to truly feel the weight of those words. Mercy is not getting what we actually deserve, and what we deserve is sobering. When that reality sinks in, the call to present our bodies as living sacrifices stops feeling like a burden and starts feeling like the only reasonable response. The problem with a living sacrifice, of course, is that it keeps crawling off the altar. Every single day we face the choice to climb back up, deny ourselves, and surrender control. This is not radical Christianity. This is simply biblical Christianity, and understanding the difference changes everything about how we approach our faith.
